There actually was a temporary exhibit and some of those sculptures are from Ivan Meštrović a Croatian artist who moved to Paris in the early 1900s. He visited Rodin and ended up creating a sculpture of Rodin in 1914 called Auguste Rodin--The Artist at Work. I didn't see anything about this exhibition while we were there, though. It wasn't until I saw a show about Croatia when I got home and recognized one of the pieces. Apparently it will be there until January 6 2013. I'll have to go back and label everything more properly so it doesn't look like all of that is Rodin.

I think they also held one of the fashion shows there because they were putting up a huge tent in the back when I was there. What a venue for a fashion show!

There was also an exhibition of huge marble pieces, including The Kiss, called "Rodin, Flesh and Marble" in the main building that I was dying to take pictures of but it wasn't allowed.

Re: Happy Birthday, Auguste Rodin

Well done! Love the photos! Seems like there are some sculptures in your blog that I have not seen there. Temporary exhibit I presume? Looks like you had a lovely day. I so enjoy this little park right in the heart of Paris.

Re: France Days 3 and 4: Versailles and Villefranche-sur-Mer

All of the places you mentioned are at the top of our list so it's good to know they are worth the visit. We just have to get a day that isn't so stormy. We tried to get to Menton today but got caught in another thunderstorm/downpour. Thank goodness we have more time!

And thanks! I'm doing my best with the cold. Funnily enough, I felt amazing yesterday when we went swimming. There must really be something special in that combination of the sea and salt and sun.

Re: France Day 2: Montmartre in the Rain

Thanks for the advice. I don't think we will make it this time, but it's on my list now. One of the reasons we wanted to go was to see the horse show, but they weren't having it on that day. I'm starting to love the gardens in France more than anything.

Re: France Day 1: Plane Rides and Paris

Thanks! I'm starting to completely rethink my preference for summer travel. It's a whole new world for me! October in Paris sounds great.

Re: France Days 3 and 4: Versailles and Villefranche-sur-Mer

Lucky you! To be in Villefranche-sur-Mer for two weeks! If you have not already, try to get up to Eze, way up above you. Wander the winding sidewalks and maybe visit the parfumery. Also, get out to Cap Ferrat and the gardens of Villa Ephrusii de Rothschild. And, go past Monaco and stop in Menton, the last town before Italy. Of course, you can go the other direction, past Nice, to places like Cannes, or better, Antibe Juan les Pines where you can visit a great Picasso museum (I believe he lived there). Anyway, I am so jealous. And take care of that cold - I immediately thought of that when you mentioned those sickies on your flight!

Re: France Day 2: Montmartre in the Rain

Pick a nice day to go to Chantilly. The chateau is great, but the gardens are better. We did not get over to the stables, but they are supposed to be the real highlight, as horses were highly favored here.

Re: France Day 1: Plane Rides and Paris

Glad to see that you are back in France! And visiting Musee Rodin and Rue Cler to boot! Congrats, I'm envious. And yes, fall is a great time to visit. Our last time there was early October..cool mornings and evenings with mild afternoons. It is such a beautiful, photogenic area. I would go back in a heartbeat. The people and towns are just so lovely.

I completely agree that it is all of those little unexpected events/places/people you stumble on that make travel so worth it and special. It's funny how sometimes (maybe even usually) it's the unplanned that leaves you with the best memories.

Re: Daydream Destination: The Félibrée Festival in France’s Dordogne

These photos are fantastic! So colorful. It is enough to inspire travel to that area just to see it. Most of the veterans from that great war are gone now. Have you been before? I'm definitely a Rome lover but I haven't been to Sorrento or Positano yet. I've seen that there is a nice ferry, sounds like a good way to see the coast. Although driving probably offers some gorgeous views too. You probably can't go wrong!

Re: Daydream Destination: Portofino

Erin,

We;re heading to Italy this summer and will be in Rome, then Sorrento. Expect to spend a whole week in Sorrento and will make a point of heading over to Positano for a day-trip. Maybe boating over rather than driving?

Re: Adventures in Scotch Tasting

Thanks for the tips. And narrow and winding roads add to that. But, if one is patient and maybe stays out of major cities (e.g. Edinborough, Glasgow), then it is really OK. We have driven in Ireland and Scotland both and sitting on the opposite side if the car keeps you aware of the differences. Just remember to look BOTH ways before pulling out anywhre. {I've driven in Paris, too, and found it even more challenging, simply because of the sheer volume of traffic.]

Re: About

Glad to meet you too, Derek! The LCBO really seems to regulate and reduce the availability of just about every wine and spirt.

Thank you so much for the links, especially the NTS one. I'm now falling in love with some of the rentals and sites. It sounds like you had a wonderful trip, I'm envious! I would love to be able to do something similar and visit some of the smaller distilleries. Did you have any trouble with driving?
